CASAS Testing Common Questions Answered

What is the CASAS Test?
CASAS tests assess basic and academic skills in real-world contexts. CASAS is in the most widely used adult education competency-based testing system in the United States.

 What does CASAS stand for?
Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System

Why do I have to take this test?

This test helps your teachers to see how much your reading skills are strengthening as you work your way through our courses at our school. Testing our students is also one of the requirements our school must fulfill in order to be eligible for the funding dollars that keep your classes tuition free in the Adult Secondary Education program at our school site.

How many times in a school year do I have to take the CASAS test?
Students enrolled in classes that require the reading component of the CASAS test must take the test until they have made a learning gain. That means students will test a minimum of twice each school year.

What is the difference between a school year and a calendar year?
While the calendar year starts in January and ends in December, the school years in Stockton Unified starts in August and end in May. That means, if you are a continuing student and have taken the test last school year, you will still have to take the CASAS a minimum of two(2) times for reading, when the new school year starts in August.

What happens if I do not take the CASAS test?
Your Edgenuity course can be locked until you have taken the test and/or you may be dropped from the class.
